Baudelaire!

So, here's the first one! At last!

I followed the pattern slavishly, apart from using a crochet cast-on at the toe instead of the 'magic loop', and of course I made my own (ahem!) alteration to one of the cable increases. I also used the sewn cast-off for the first time, as Cookie suggests. Makes a much more elastic top to the sock, which is much easier for getting on and off. I often have problems with the top being too tight, no matter how loosely I try to cast off, so this is a revelation to me. The alternative, which I try to do when I remember, is to use a larger needle for the cast-off, but it seems the sewn cast-off is a better solution.

Already cast on for the second sock. No point putting off the evil moment...!

Well done you, sterling work! I finally cast on this morning for my first sockpal sock, going great guns (although I should be working). Went with a completely different pattern in the end to the ones I had been debating. I'll blog it soon - time permitting! Godspeed to the second sock :)

*gasp* Baudelaires are toe-up??? How did I miss that? They're beautiful and if I cast on for them in the near future it will be a direct result of seeing yours. Your sock pal'll love them!

Duh, I just realized I've been looking at the in-progress pictures and still somehow the fact that they are toe-up did not register in my brain. I don't think I have anything to blame it on either, darn it!

Hmmm, I didn't find the magic cast on tricky at all - I preferred it to the cast on I used for the first toe-up sock, much less fiddly. I'll have to try out the stretchy cast-off - just found out that the boyf can't get the cast on edge of his sock over his heel - definitely a problem I don't want to affect the sockpal socks!

Thank you SOOOO much for the invite for Sunday evening at the pub! It was the only time during the weekend that I needed to meet my boss (who'd just arrived.) Next time I'll write earlier and perhaps be able to really work it into the schedule.
Thanks again!!

That's so pretty! I've been wondering about a crochet cast-on for toe-ups, and you've confirmed it looks awesome!

Oh, now I want a pair...
